Lots of Loved Ones

I'm very lucky to have family and friends outside of my immediate family who have loved and supported me over the years. They are all excited that I'm going to adopt and I know that they'll love my children as much as they love me.

My family, immediate or otherwise, has always shown me that biology doesn't make a family. Actually, most of my immediate family members are not biologically related to me.

My grandpa was my favorite person in the whole world. He passed away when I was just five. Though he hasn't been with us for over twenty years, he continues to influence me and the way I live my life.
When it comes to the people who are currently in my life, there are too many people who I consider family to list here. I want you to know that I do have many loved ones who are waiting to welcome a new member to the family and who are excited to meet her when the day comes.

My loved ones range from the woman who started as my next door neighbor and quickly became my grandmother and her daughter who stepped in as a surrogate Godmother when my Godmother (my aunt) passed away, to my Godfather's family (my dad's best friend since they were six) and my mom's longtime friend who we've always called "Aunt."

I also have the greatest friends to support me... like one who has been practically a brother to me since we were in diapers, to whom my parents often refer as their "other son." My other best friend, with whom I've grown up since elementary school (who asked me to be in his wedding in 2019), helps to complete a special group of four because his mom and my mom are also best friends, so we've done a lot together as a group over the years.

Additionally, I've been fortunate to make friends through work without whom I now couldn't imagine my life. One is always up for crazy adventures but is my go-to person when I need to get something off of my chest. The other two don't work with me anymore, but I know that they're always ready to support me, no matter how far apart we may be. I have been extremely fortunate to have friends who have become family over the course of my lifetime.

There are so many people waiting to support me as I start this next phase of my life. I know that the little girls who I eventually bring home will be loved more than they could ever imagine.
